StanChart’s market RWAs hit eight-year high

Client-driven RWA deployment raises market risk exposure by $3.2 billion

Standard Chartered’s market risk-weighted assets (RWAs) rose by 11.5% in the third quarter, reaching $30.6 billion – the bank’s highest level since at least 2016.

The latest figure marked a 20.8% increase year on year and contributed to total RWAs climbing 2.9% to $248.9 billion. In turn, this drove the bank’s Common Equity Tier 1 capital ratio down 41 basis points to 14.23%.
