Bond rout puts pressure on UST holdings at US banks

Banks leaned heavily on mark-to-market Treasuries before April’s sell-off

US banks held a record $2.27 trillion in US Treasuries at the end of 2024, exposing them to mounting losses as bond prices fell in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s tariffs announcement on April 2.
