Systemic US banks crushed cleared OTC notionals in Q2

Outstanding amounts fall 12% quarter-on-quarter

Notional amounts of cleared over-the-counter derivatives held by the eight too-big-to-fail US banks fell 12% over the three months to end-June, having climbed a whopping 36% over the first quarter.

Aggregate OTC notionals amounted to $207.42 trillion at end-June, of which $115 trillion (55%) were cleared through central counterparties (CCPs). Bilaterally-traded derivatives notionals fell 6% on the quarter to $92.42 trillion.

Cleared notionals remain 20% higher than they were at end-2019, but
