Malcolm Knight named BIS chief

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has appointed Malcolm Knight as general manager of the Basel-based institution. He replaces Andrew Crockett, who is set to depart in March.

Knight has served as the senior deputy governor of the Bank of Canada since 1999, and is the bank’s chief operating officer and a member of the board of directors. There, he was responsible for the oversight of strategic planning and corporate risk management, and co-ordination of the bank’s operations. He also acted as a deputy/alternate to the governor, and shared responsibility for the conduct of monetary policy as a member of the bank’s governing council. Previously, he was with the IMF
