About the course
Financial institutions play a pivotal role in the global transition to net-zero emissions. This training equips professionals with the skills required to implement effective decarbonisation initiatives within their organisations. Through group discussions, case studies and practical examples, participants will tackle common challenges faced by risk managers, including strategy, governance and risk management.
Attendees will develop a 100-day plan for a newly appointed head of climate and sustainability risk management, focusing on metrics, targets and climate risk self-assessments.
The programme also provides insights into complying with regulatory guidance, such as the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and teaches participants how to build a micro-level decarbonisation action plan. The course concludes with a three-point plan for firms to follow from 2024 to 2050.

Duncan has forty years of work experience with half in banking and half in management consultancy. Currently, he specialises in two fields: sustainability and climate risk management and finance, and risk management in the first line and second line of defence.
He has deep subject matter expertise in non-financial risk management and operational risk. He trains and advises clients on the climate and ESG-related reporting requirements, climate scenario analysis and climate risk management frameworks.
He has also made and published four training films on climate science, sustainable finance, climate risk management and climate scenario analysis. He is a certified Climate Fresk facilitator and holds a certificate of Sustainability and Climate Risk from the Global Association of Risk Professionals (2021). He also works with development banks in developing countries as part of capacity building initiatives on driving sustainable and green finance for climate mitigation and adaption projects.
His seventeen years of banking experience was with four different firms: Schroders, BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank and HSBC. He has led global non-financial risk teams across all major trading hubs as a risk manager. He has also gained experience as a programme director on large scale transformation projects. His twenty one years of management consulting experience includes Ernst and Young, IBM Consulting and Deloitte.
