Swissrisk to offer portfolio risk management via PDAs

Swissrisk, a provider of internet-based interactive and integrated risk and portfolio management tools, has teamed up with IBM to provide access to sophisticated risk and portfolio management tools over mobile phones and personal digital assistants (PDAs).

The Swiss firm already offers internet-based risk management and portfolio management technology, to allow financial institutions to offer application service provider (ASP) services to their employees and clients. The mobile channel is an add-on to existing PC delivery.

End-users can now calculate the outcome of various market scenarios and identify when a portfolio is exposed. "This agreement with Swissrisk will give users wireless access to some of the most sophisticated financial tools available, putting them on an equal footing with desktop users," claimed Simon Dyson, vice-president of IBM's Europe Middle East and Africa communications sector.

IBM's role is to provide its WebSphere Everyplace Server to allow seamless integration of Swissrisk's applications without the need for large-scale software integration and maintenance.

"It is a big step in bringing professional financial information and analysis to a wider audience, and a major advance in driving wireless e-business applications such as stock trading and mobile banking," said Thomas Wolfensberger, Swissrisk chief executive.
