BTFP shutters with loans at near-record high

Program saw last-minute $3bn dash for loans in final three days of operation

The Bank Term Funding Program ceased new lending with outstanding loans at nearly their highest level on record.

The BTFP, which ended on March 11, was established at the height of the 2023 banking crisis to provide extra liquidity at relatively low rates to banks struggling with funding.
