Dread of cyber attack and data theft grows at EU banks – survey

More than 60% of respondents predict a rise in op risk

More than half of European banks are bracing for more operational risk in the next year. The thing that spooks them most? Cyber attack and data theft.

Over 60% of respondents to the European Banking Authority’s (EBA) semi-annual risk questionnaire said they see higher operational risk over the next six to 12 months, up from 55% in December 2017 and 43% in June 2017.

Of those predicting greater op risk, 55% gave higher cyber risk and threats to data security as their main reason, up from 42%
