LCH Japan plan signals new fight for global clearing model

UK-based clearing house faces “uphill struggle” against JFSA location policy on yen derivatives

In recent years, attention has focused on the European Union’s efforts to force onshore euro-denominated derivatives clearing. But LCH, which is the main target of the EU’s ire, looks set to wade into a fresh dispute about clearing location policies in a different jurisdiction – Japan.

And just as LCH squares up to lobbying pressure from Eurex in the EU, so it is also pitted against a formidable local opponent in Japan. In fact, there is extra bite to the rivalry between LCH and Japan
