When Regions Bank made the decision to deploy a new credit risk modelling tool in early March, it had little idea how canny its timing would prove. The system – which sends signals to the bank’s risk and relationship managers that all might not be well with a client’s loan performance, based on observed historical behaviour patterns – went live the week that Covid-19 cases began to spiral in the US.
