Energy end-user hedging: BASF's Gonzalez
Alejandro Gonzalez, senior commodities risk manager at the chemicals giant BASF, spoke at Energy Risk USA 2011 in Houston about his approach to hedging in a volatile environment
End-users can't just react at the last minute to spikes in volatility, says Gonzalez, but should build their positions up slowly over time. End-users should take a view of the market when designing their hedges, according to Gonzalez, although this could affect a firm's regulatory status in the future.
