DBS aims to become a regional powerhouse in Asia offering consumer, corporate and wholesale banking services. And getting its risk management architectural framework right is critical. Christopher Jeffery speaks with its chief executive, Piyush Gupta

We are not very good at being a multinational bank today,” Piyush Gupta, chief executive of DBS Group in Singapore tells Asia Risk. “We are sort of a single-country bank that embarked on a multinational journey about 10 years ago. But many of our frameworks are not adequately evolved to be a regional multinational.”

Gupta should know. He previously worked for 29 years at Citi, which has a domestic presence in 18 local markets in Asia, most recently as chief executive for South-east Asia Pacific
