Ferc calls for risk manager vigilance

The director of the office of market oversight and investigations (OMOI) at theUS Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc), has urged energy risk managersto alert his office to any suspicious market practices.

Speaking at the EPRM congress in Houston in May, William Hederman said energyrisk managers should take a leading role in helping “clean up” thebattered US energy industry, which has been tainted by market manipulation, Enron’sdemise and the Californian power crisis.

“If my office at Ferc is to act as the ‘cop on the beat’, then wealso need the help of our ‘neighbourhood watch’, which comprisesenergy firm risk managers,” he said.
