Regulators may issue Basel II discussion document in response to banker fears

Global banking regulators are likely to issue an interim discussion document in June or July on their proposals for a new bank capital accord, in a response to banker concerns about the complexity of those plans.

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, the committee of banking supervisors from the Group of 10 leading economies that in effect regulates international banking, is expected by bankers to agree the idea at its mid-March quarterly meeting.

Such a discussion document would appear between the May 31 deadline on industry comments on the proposals and the publication of the final plans towards the end of this year. It would be used as a basis of discussion with bankers as regulators finalise
