S&P risk-control indexes catch the eye of banks with volatility concerns

A range of risk-control indexes for volatile markets launched by index provider Standard & Poor's (S&P) have proved popular with investment banks concerned about the volatility of equities and broader market risks. Launched in November 2008, the indexes are designed to target and control risk in an underlying S&P index. Initially, specific volatility levels were set for the S&P Bric 40, S&P Latin America 40, S&P Southeast Asia 40 and S&P Global Infrastructure indexes.

The indexes aim to reduce
