Basel Pushes For Better Op Risk Disclosure

Banks will be obliged to disclose more about the risks and liabilities they face, including their operational risks, if Basel Committee proposals for amending the Capital Accord go ahead.

The proposals were released in a Basel Committee consultative paper on January 18. William McDonough, chairman of the committee, described the paper as a "key part of the Committee's attempt to enhance capital disclosures".

The Committee believes that if a bank's true market, credit and operational risk position
