Password misuse still weakest link in e-service security

NEW YORK -- The misuse of ID and passwords is still the weakest link in the security of banks’ Web-based electronic cash (e-cash) management services, says a report issued in April by research and consultancy firm The Tower Group.

Technology, which can help matters by regulating the access privileges of individuals and systems to functions, tasks and data inside and outside a bank, can only do so much to reduce the risks.
