Solvency II - Group support opponents split over ABI proposal

The Association of British Insurers' endorsement of a European 'supervisor of supervisors' has drawn a mixed response from opponents of cross-border capital assessment. Peter Vipond, director of financial regulation and taxation at the ABI, admitted the proposal was intended to ensure "de facto group support" in the EU, now that the measure will not form part of any Solvency II directive.

An ABI report, Regulation and Markets for the 21st Century, said that recent actions by governments
