MAS releases proposals for Basel II implementation

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has published a consultation paper on the draft proposals for the implementation of Basel II. The consultation paper follows the phase II consultation paper in March of this year and proposes rules for calculating capital requirements for equity and securitisation exposures under the revised Accord.

The paper also incorporates recent changes to the calculation of equity risk-weighted assets and the eligible collateral for on-balance-sheet and off-balance-sheet securitisation exposures.

Singapore is considered to have one of the most sophisticated risk infrastructures in Asia. The country is set to adopt the advanced approaches in 2008, while smaller banks using basic or standardised approaches will have to comply by 2007.
