Energy Risk Europe: EC official questions energy industry estimates of clearing costs

Recent industry estimates of the cost of clearing are met with scepticism during a roundtable discussion at Energy Risk Europe

Industry estimates on the costs of new regulation that will require all standardised over-the-counter derivatives to be cleared should be treated with a degree of scepticism, according to Tadhg O'Briain, a policy officer at the European Commission (EC), speaking at the Energy Risk Europe conference in London today.

His comments follow a report by Platts on September 25, in which Shell chief financial officer Simon Henry claimed mandatory clearing requirements within the European Market
