Brokers welcome Iosco commodity derivatives supervision principles

The recommendations of global regulators to harmonise commodity derivatives regulation have received praise from brokers for not trying to divide 'speculation' from 'hedging'

A report released yesterday by global regulators to harmonise the regulation and supervision of commodity derivatives have been welcomed by brokers.

"I think it is noticeable that there is no clear attack on 'speculation'," said a commodities broker in London. "However, the principles set out in this report will form the framework for more local regulation, and I think we still need to see what transpires at that level."
