EC calls for advice on the review of commodities business under the CRD

The European Commission (EC) has asked the Committee of European Banking Supervisors (CEBS) for advice on commodities firms under both the Capital Requirements Directive (CRD) and the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (Mifid). CEBS is going to work closely with the Committee of European Securities Regulators (CESR) to provide advice for the relevant Mifid articles.

CEBS will review current prudential supervisory practices for firms conducting commodities business, including an analysis of national prudential supervisory regimes throughout the EU. CEBS will also produce an assessment of prudential risks that may arise from the commodities business.

The EC has requested the analysis of the current supervisory practices by December 31 of this year and the risk assessment by April 30 2007.
