Senior EU politician says US is set to release Basel II rules

Regulators could agree on the US’s Basel II rules today, according to a top EU bureaucrat.

Pervenche Berès, head of the Union’s committee on economic and monetary affairs, told news agency Reuters yesterday that the US is almost ready to go on Basel after meeting with officials from the four regulators responsible: “Basel II was extensively discussed and we understand there might be an important decision [made] this week.”
