Probes into UK law firms near conclusion

LONDON – The UK Law Society's conflict investigations into two law firms, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Allen & Overy, are in their final stages, with both set for a resolution in early 2006.

In the UK, the Law Society functions as a both an industry association and as a self-regulatory organisation for solicitors. Law Society insiders have indicated that the investigation into Freshfields' role acting for Philip Green on a £9 billion bid for Marks & Spencer's (M&S) is expected to be concluded by February, according to sister publication, Legal Week.
