New crime agency due for launch in April

LONDON – The much awaited Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca), due to be established on April 1 this year, is set to be a low-profile but 'high-tech' elite force aimed at tackling serious crime, with one key role being to tackle criminal networks who use the internet.

Soca will merge the responsibilities currently shared by the National Criminal Intelligence Service and the National Crime Squad.

One of the first hurdles for Soca will be to identify the extent of fraud in Britain, as many experts state that unless fraud is quantified it can not be properly tackled.
