New carbon brokerage targets non-power-sector SMEs

Three senior players in the European emissions trading market have launched Carbon Capital Markets, a broker-dealer service that targets small to medium-sized companies (SMEs) outside the power sector.

Lionel Fretz, the former founder of specialist merchant banking group Climate Change Capital, becomes chief executive. Reuben Maltby has left carbon brokerage firm CO2e.com, where he worked as vice-president of transactions, to take responsibility for trading and sales. John O’Brien, former managing director of Carbon Market Solutions and principal consultant of Enviros Consulting, is head of origination.
