Equitable policyholders may accept compromise

LONDON -- Early signs were that policyholders of stricken UK mutual life assurer Equitable Life would vote for the company's proposed compromise solution to its problems, insurance industry analysts said in late September.

Equitable, which is still solvent, was forced to close its doors to new business last December after falling foul of operational hazards, including legal and strategic risks.
