FBI investigates Lehman, AIG, Fannie and Freddie

The FBI is investigating possible accounting fraud at the beleaguered financial institutions at the core of the latest financial turmoil

WASHINGTON, DC – According to US media reports, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating 26 financial services firms for possible accounting mis-statements, including Lehman Brothers, AIG, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Details of the investigation are sketchy, as the FBI has not released any statements relating to the alleged cases. The US Securities and Exchange Commission is also said to be investigating the companies for civil violations.
