Some commodity markets saw a significant drop in volatility in 2010, with prices trading in a tight range. In contrast, there are some notable changes in this year’s Risk and Energy Risk commodity rankings, with some new faces making it into the survey
ast year turned out to be a tricky one for many energy trading firms. A lack of volatility in certain markets meant trading opportunities were less obvious than in the past, resulting in significant declines in revenues at a number of dealers. Meanwhile, US legislators put the finishing touches to new rules that will dramatically alter the over-the-counter derivatives markets – and could require banks to transfer certain commodity derivatives desks to separate affiliates.
