ast year turned out to be a tricky one for many energy trading firms. A lack of volatility in certain markets meant trading opportunities were less obvious than in the past, resulting in significant declines in revenues at a number of dealers. Meanwhile, US legislators put the finishing touches to new rules that will dramatically alter the over-the-counter derivatives markets – and could require banks to transfer certain commodity derivatives desks to separate affiliates.
