In the second annual Nordic Risk derivatives rankings, Danske Bank took top position overall from 2007's winner Nordea Bank, with SEB retaining third spot. Rob Davies reports, with research by Xiao-Long Chen

The expansion of the Nordic derivatives markets has continued apace in the past 12 months, but the main drivers of activity have changed markedly since Nordic Risk conducted its inaugural derivatives rankings in 2007. Back then, buoyant equity markets and strong economic fundamentals fuelled associated growth in derivatives usage.

Since the second half of 2007, the trend has increasingly moved towards volatility. This has been evident in everything from the contagion effects of the global credit
