Quant Guide 2021: University of Florence
Florence, Italy
The University of Florence’s MSc in Finance and Risk Management, led by Maria Elvira Mancino, a professor in the economics and management department, has made strides in the past year, receiving more applications and seeing an increase in average graduate salaries compared with its last appearance in the guide.
It received 305 applications, versus last year’s 270, and reports an approximate average starting salary of $2,500–4,500/month – between $30,000 and $54,000 yearly – against a slightly lower approximate figure last year.
There are now 21 teaching staff on the programme, compared with 20 last year. Four of this year’s staff are industry-affiliated, compared with last year’s figure of two.
Thanks to Covid-19, 100% of teaching is currently conducted remotely, says course vice-director Ilaria Colivicchi, with the exception of practical lessons that students take once a week. When students do attend the campus, they take part in classes that have been reduced to one-third of their normal capacities, she adds.
The 2020/21 course offering includes a wide array of mandatory and elective modules, as well as workshop classes and internships. Internships take place in the second year, and require students to tackle 75 hours’ worth of work. The workshop modules available include topics in quantitative finance and corporate finance.
