MAS confirms finance minister as new chairman

The Monetary Authority of Singapore names Shanmugaratnam as part of ongoing management reshuffle

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has named Singapore minister for finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam as its chairman with immediate effect. The term will be for two years.

Shanmugaratnam is MAS' sixth chairman since its establishment in 1971. He replaces emeritus senior minister Goh Chok Tong who had served as chairman since August 2004.

Goh stepped down from the MAS board of directors on May 21 but will remain as a senior advisor.
