Shirakawa named as BIS vice-chairman

BoJ head takes senior role at BIS

Masaaki Shirakawa, the governor of the Bank of Japan, has succeeded Hans Tietmeyer as vice-chairman of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). His term will run until January 2014. Shirakawa is currently chairman of the BIS Asian Consultative Council, and has been a member of the BIS' board since 2008. In April 2008, he was named as governor of the Bank of Japan, and joined the BIS board the next month.
