Gatehouse Bank appoints chief Shariah advisor

UK based Shariah-compliant investment bank Gatehouse has appointed Mufti Muhammad Nurullah Shikder as head of the bank's Shariah advisory and Shariah compliance arms.

The move represents the first appointment of a Shariah scholar to a full-time position in a bank, either in the UK or the Gulf. "Muhammad's arrival is testament to our leading role in UK Islamic finance," says David Testa, CEO of Gatehouse.

Shikder will oversee the day-to-day transactions of the bank to ensure compliance with Islamic
