The palatial 18th century headquarters of Munich Re is a long way away from the gas pipelines and power stations of Australia. But it was in that country's volatile deregulated gas and electricity markets that Charlie Shamieh learned some tough lessons about risk sharing - lessons that he is now bringing to bear in his role as head of the Integrated Risk Management (IRM) division of the Munich-based global insurance giant.
