The Credit Suisse Group has appointed Walter Knabenhaus as group chief risk officer. Knabenhaus takes up his new post at the start of next year and will report directly to Richard Thornburgh, the company's chief administrative and financial officer.

Knabenhaus's new position involves monitoring market and credit risks across the group's subsidiaries, including Credit Suisse, CS First Boston and Credit Suisse Financial Products.

Credit Suisse Group has also appointed Christoph Ammann as chief information officer, with responsibility for co-ordinating technology and joint operations across the group.

Ammann, who will also report to Thornburgh, succeeds Hans Geiger, who has left Credit Suisse after more than 25 years with the company. A Credit Suisse spokesperson say Geiger is "leaving to pursue other interests", including teaching activities. He will continue working for the company as a consultant.

Jos Heijnen, a senior vice president at ABN Amro Bank, has resigned as chairman of the board of directors of Exchange Clearing House (Echo). Heijnen says "the time has come to turn my attention to other matters in ABN Amro Bank".

, a senior vice president at Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken and Echo's current deputy chairman has been appointed as interim chairman of the company.

Echo is a foreign exchange netting service based in London. It started operations in August 1995 and is currently the only live multilateral netting service for foreign exchange.
