ING hires head of Asian hedge fund sales

ING Financial Markets, a unit of ING Group, has hired Daren Riley as global head of Asian hedge fund sales. Riley took up his new position last week.

ING said Riley “will be responsible for servicing ING’s global hedge fund client base, and in particular will develop Asian equity solutions to support a diverse range of hedge fund strategies.”

Riley previously spent eight years at Credit Lyonnais Securities Asia (CLSA), where his latest position was executive director, head of equity sales, Asia. Riley has also been a London-based head of Asian equity sales at Nomura Securities and Baring Securities before joining CLSA.

The hedge fund solutions will include Asian equity derivatives, a sector to which ING has recently returned after a five-year absence, when it set up an Asian structured and listed equity derivatives in July.

Riley’s hire comes after the appointment of Donald Klip in September as vice-president, hedge fund sales. Both Riley and Klip are based in Hong Kong and report directly to Stephen Hill, head of equity sales, Asia.

A spokesman at ING said there are more hires in the pipeline for the bank’s research and trading divisions, but declined to give further details.
