CFTC names new global markets chief

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), based in Washington, DC, has appointed Jill Sommers as chairman of its Global Markets Advisory Committee. She takes over from acting chairman Walter Lukken, who has chaired this committee since October 2003.

Sommers was the policy director and head of government affairs for the International Swaps and Derivatives Association in 2005, where she worked on a number of over-the-counter derivatives issues. She was sworn in as a CFTC commissioner on August 8, 2007, and will serve as commissioner until April 13, 2009.
