Barclays hires two for Latin America credit trading

Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank, has hired Michael McGowan and Ronaldo Lyrio as directors of credit trading for Latin America, as part of the bank’s effort to grow its presence in the region.

McGowan joins from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange where he was an interest rate futures trader. Prior to that, he spent nine years at Chase Securities, where he was vice-president in the international fixed-income division for the emerging markets proprietary group. In his new role at Barclays Capital, McGowan will be responsible for managing the Latin American credit repo book.

Lyrio, meanwhile, will be trading sovereigns in Latin America, concentrating on the Brazilian market. He joins from the Royal Bank of Scotland, where he was senior trader for the global emerging markets proprietary positioning group for three years. Prior to that, he held various positions in fixed-income trading for emerging markets at Banque Paribas, UBS Securities and JP Morgan Securities.

Both McGowan and Lyrio will be based in New York, and will report to Diego Gradowczyk, head of Latin America credit trading.
