At BayernLB, Nykredit and Erste, op risk charges hit multi-year highs

Annual model recalibrations responsible for double-digit rises

Operational risk-weighted assets (RWAs) at three European Union banks saw double-digit increases to multi-year highs in the first quarter.

BayernLB reported €5.2 billion ($5.7 billion) in op RWAs at the end of March, marking a 15.2% increase from the previous quarter – the largest growth among the 22 European banks analysed by Risk Quantum.

Nykredit saw op RWAs rise 11.4% to Dkr34.5 billion ($5 billion), while Erste Group rounded out the trio with an 11.1% increase to €16.4 billion.
