BBVA’s takeover of Sabadell would shrink its leverage ratio

New entity would have lowest ratio since 2020

BBVA’s proposed takeover of Banco Sabadell would result in a leverage ratio for the combined entity 29 basis points below BBVA’s most recent figure, Risk Quantum analysis shows.

On May 9, BBVA announced its plan to purchase fellow Spanish lender Sabadell with a direct offer to shareholders. To be successful, the takeover will require the support of 50.1% of Sabadell shareholders and regulatory approval. The board of Sabadell rejected the takeover proposal on May 16.
