People moves: five leave JP Morgan, MS names co-presidents, and more

There have been a number of changes across JP Morgan. Risk.net understands that five members of the bank’s equity team have departed in recent months. These include equity derivatives trader Daniel Manterfield, equity exotics and hybrids trader Alan Zerbib, Francesco Taglietti, an executive director in equity exotics trading, and delta-one trader Omar Marrakchi. All job titles have been taken from the leavers’ LinkedIn profiles.

The fifth leaver is Cedric Veylon. According to his LinkedIn profile, he was head of the single stock sector trading team in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (Emea). Veylon has joined Barclays as Emea head of flow derivatives trading, reporting to Ashish Prabhudesai, global head of exotics.

In addition, Victorino Hinora, an executive director in equity derivatives sales at JP Morgan, has left the bank.

JP Morgan has also announced changes among its senior management. Daniel Pinto, currently co-president and co-chief operating officer (COO) for the group, as well as chief executive of its corporate and investment bank, will become the sole president and COO in December. Gordon Smith, co-president and co-COO, as well as chief executive of consumer and community banking, will retire at the end of the year.

Marianne Lake, chief executive of consumer lending, and Jennifer Piepszak, chief financial officer (CFO), have taken on the roles of co-heads of the consumer and community banking division, reporting to Smith.

Jeremy Barnum has taken over from Piepszak as CFO. He was CFO for the corporate and investment bank from 2013 until the start of this year.


Morgan Stanley has named Ted Pick and Andy Saperstein as co-presidents. Pick leads the institutional securities business, and is now also responsible for the bank’s international operations. In another addition to his role, he has been made co-head of firm strategy and execution together with Dan Simkowitz, the head of investment management.

Saperstein, who leads Morgan Stanley’s wealth management business, is now in charge of all of the bank’s wealth management divisions, including Financial Advisors, E*Trade and Morgan Stanley at Work.

Elsewhere, Jonathan Pruzan has become COO, and was previously the CFO. Sharon Yeshaya, formerly the head of investor relations, has taken Pruzan’s place, reporting to him and James Gorman, Morgan Stanley’s chairman and chief executive.

Additionally, Shelley O’Connor has been appointed vice-chairman of the bank and head of external affairs. She previously headed the US banks business. Mike Pizzi has replaced O’Connor in that role, reporting to Pruzan.

All appointments became effective on June 1.

BNY Mellon has recruited Laide Majiyagbe from Goldman Sachs to head up financing and liquidity. The newly created position gives Majiyagbe oversight of the firm’s securities finance, liquidity services and collateral segregation businesses. She will be based in New York, reporting to Adam Vos, chief executive of markets and execution services.

Majiyagbe’s most recent role at Goldman Sachs was global head of liquidity projections in the corporate treasury division.


UBS has appointed Michael Baldinger its chief sustainability officer. He joined the group’s asset management arm in 2016 as head of sustainable and impact investing. Previously, Baldinger served as chief executive at RobecoSAM, a sustainability research and investment firm.

Phyllis Costanza has been named head of social impact in addition to her current responsibilities as head of the group’s philanthropy services.

The head of Asia-Pacific structured sales, Bilal Al-Ali, has left the Swiss bank, and is set join Morgan Stanley, according to two people familiar with the move. He will head up Morgan Stanley’s structured sales team in the Asia-Pacific (Apac) region, one of the people said. Al-Ali joined UBS in 2009 as Apac head of quantitative research.


Cyrille Walter has left Bank of America, where he was head of equity client solutions. He was previously chief risk officer for the bank’s Global Markets division. He joined the bank in 2012.


HSBC has made new appointments in its wealth and personal banking business in Singapore. Ian Yim has been named head of distribution at the division, responsible for all staff-assisted sales and service channels. Melissa Craig, meanwhile, now heads up the digital and innovation team. Both report to Anurag Mathur, head of wealth and personal banking at HSBC Bank (Singapore).

Yim previously led the wealth and international businesses of HSBC in Singapore, and has been acting head of distribution since March 1 this year. Craig was group head of digital messaging and sales for HSBC’s international operations.


Mizuho has made three appointments in its rates trading business after several senior traders left the bank earlier this year. Kevin Broughton has joined as a US dollar swaps trader in Europe. Earlier in his career, he worked in rates trading at the Royal Bank of Canada and Morgan Stanley. David Li is another new member of the swaps team, with a focus on the four major currencies. He previously worked at Millennium Capital Partners.

Andra Belcea will join the team in July as head of cross-currency swaps. She worked most recently at Societe Generale in Hong Kong, trading cross-currency swaps and foreign exchange forwards.

All three new starters will report to Jason Cohen, head of linear rates trading.

Sandro Pierri has been appointed chief executive of BNP Paribas Asset Management, effective from July 1. Based in Paris, Pierri will report to Renaud Dumora, deputy COO of BNP Paribas. Pierri will replace Frédéric Janbon, who will become special adviser to Dumora before leaving the group at the end of the year. Pierri joined BNPP AM in 2017.

Elsewhere at the asset manager, Olivier de Larouzière has been named chief investment officer for global fixed income. Based in Paris, he reports to the global head of investments at BNPP AM, Rob Gambi. De Larouzière retains his existing responsibilities as head of the asset manager’s global multi-strategy product team, a role he has held since joining the firm in 2019. He was previously co-chief investment officer of fixed income at Ostrum Asset Management.


Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) has appointed Edouard O’Neill as chief executive for the Hong Kong branch and head of structured finance for Asia.

Based in Hong Kong, he reports jointly to Michel Roy, senior regional officer for Apac, and Jacques de Villaines, global head of structured finance. O’Neill leads the overall business development and strategy of the bank’s commercial franchise in Hong Kong, and works on the development of the bank’s structured finance activities in Asia.

Before this latest role, O’Neill was global head of acquisition finance advisory at Crédit Agricole CIB. He joined the bank in 2015.


Citi has named Alex Schrantz head of its Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory (BCMA) division for Hong Kong, while retaining his existing role as Apac head of corporate finance.

Schrantz will report jointly to Jan Metzger, Apac head of BCMA, and Angel Ng, chief executive of Hong Kong and Macau.

Schrantz joined Citi in 2012, and was responsible for overseeing all of Citi’s capital markets execution in Apac. Between 2006 and 2010, he was a member of the listing committee of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.


Hideki Ushida has joined the board of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association as a new director. Ushida has served as a managing director in the global markets compliance office at MUFG Bank since 2017.

Faryar Shirzad, the former global co-head of government affairs at Goldman Sachs, has joined cryptocurrency exchange operator Coinbase as chief policy officer. Shirzad spent 15 years at the US bank, and previously served on the staff of the National Security Council at the White House as deputy national security adviser for international economic affairs.


Northern Trust has hired Arthur Hill as head of product management for asset servicing. Hill is based in Chicago, and reports to Paul d’Ouville, head of asset servicing product and client solutions.

Hill has joined from consultancy Capgemini, where he was a senior director in the firm’s global insurance and financial services group.


Data analytics firm Coalition Greenwich has appointed Stephen Bruel as a senior analyst on its market structure and technology team. He heads up the derivatives and FX practice on the team. Bruel has joined from Brown Brothers Harriman, where he was head of derivatives product management.

Going the other way, senior analyst Ken Monahan has left Coalition Greenwich to serve as chief of staff for US House of Representatives member Peter Meijer.


Gottfried Leibbrandt and Shuta Okawara have been appointed to the board of directors at CLS. Leibbrandt was chief executive of Swift from 2012 to 2019, while Okawara heads up the transactions services division of MUFG Bank. Both will serve on CLS’s technology and operations committee. Leibbrandt will also join the product development committee.


Saxo Markets UK has recruited Simon O’Malley as CFO. He will start in his new role on July 26 and will be based in London. He will report to Charles White-Thomson, chief executive of Saxo Markets UK. O’Malley most recently served as programme director for business transformation at HSBC Global Banking and Markets. Prior to that, he was global risk COO at Barclays.


Natasha Cazenave took up her new role as the executive director of the European Securities and Markets Authority on June 1, succeeding Verena Ross. Cazenave was previously deputy secretary-general and head of the policy and international affairs directorate at the Autorité des marchés financiers in France.

Cazenave will be replaced at the AMF by Jérôme Reboul, who currently serves at the French Treasury Directorate as deputy director responsible for banks. He will join the regulator on July 1, taking charge of its regulatory policy and international affairs directorate.

LCH has appointed James Pearson as head of ForexClear, its FX derivatives clearing service, effective from June 1. He is based in London and reports to Isabelle Girolami, chief executive of LCH Limited, the group’s London entity. Earlier in his career, Pearson was global head of FX trading at RBS, and held senior FX trading roles at Nomura and Lehman Brothers.


Cryptocurrency exchange FTX.US has hired former Citadel Securities and Jane Street technologist Brett Harrison as its president. Most recently, Harrison was head of semi-systematic technology at Citadel Securities. Before that, he headed up exchange-traded fund technology at the market-maker. At Jane Street, Harrison led the firm’s trading systems development group.


River & Mercantile Group has appointed Alex Hoctor-Duncan to its board as an executive director, responsible for strategic development. Hoctor-Duncan is currently global head of Aberdeen Standard Investments, and will take up his new position later this year. Before Aberdeen Standard Investments, he was at BlackRock.


South Street Securities chief executive James Tabacchi has been elected to the board of directors at the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation. Tabacchi co-founded broker-dealer South Street Securities in 2000 after two decades at Citi.
