Basel III capital shortfall estimate drops by €9 billion

Lower projected credit and market risk capital requirements and model output floor drive reduction

Global banks are currently €27.3 billion ($30 billion ) short of the capital they need to comply with Basel III on a fully-loaded basis from 2027 onwards, data from the Basel Committee shows. 

Group 1 banks – internationally active firms with more than €3 billion in Tier 1 capital – will need to raise €23.5 billion in aggregate to meet their end-state capital targets. The 29 global systemically important banks (G-Sibs) account for €21.6 billion of this shortfall.
