HKEX: Hong Kong should not fear China investment rule change

Confidence in city’s legal framework remains a key advantage as China loosens QFII rules, says risk chief

A senior executive at Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing has batted away suggestions that an increasingly open China will result in Hong Kong’s demise as a regional gateway to foreign investors.

China’s State Authority of Foreign Exchange announced on September 11 that it would remove the cap restrictions placed on two investment quota systems for approved foreign investors into onshore Chinese securities. Once enacted, the dollar-dominated qualified foreign institutional investor (QFII) scheme
