UK bank derivative balances a mixed bag
Mark-to-market derivative balances with UK entities deteriorate; improve with non-UK firms
UK banks’ aggregate derivative balances with UK institutions slid toward the red in the first quarter of the year, while those with non-UK entities improved.
Net derivative assets between UK banks stood at -£1.9 billion at end-March, a drop from -£277 million at end-December 2017 and £2.5 billion year-on-year.
Net derivative assets between UK banks and UK public sector entities, meanwhile, also fell from £1.5 billion to £685 million quarter-on-quarter. Gross derivative assets fell £728
