A senior official at Belgium's Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) has pointed to the regulator's 2011 ban on complex structured products sales as an example of a successful market intervention without resort to legislation, despite admitting it has led to the wholesale disappearance of certain product underlyings from the market.
