The US government's fiscal year ends on September 30, and that means one thing at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC): it's time to hire new employees, the quicker the better.
Former CFTC employees say the perennial uncertainty around the agency's budget has led to an annual tradition that few people enjoy, in which it scrambles to add new staff in August and September. In some cases, new hires are given as little as 24 hours to decide whether to accept a job offer from the CFTC
