OpRisk Europe: Banks rewarding restrained risk taking, conference hears

Heads of operational risk say banks aligning remuneration to risk objectives

Delegates at the OpRisk Europe conference in London yesterday heard examples of how linking compensation to risk was not only desirable but practical.

"We've got risk objectives in all managing directors' appraisals, and they then cascade down towards the people who work for those MDs so they can see that they're being remunerated against their risk objectives," said David Dietman, executive director and global head of equities operational risk at Nomura.
