Passionate about funds: profile of Unigestion

Unigestion was one of the first companies to make a serious foray into funds of hedge funds. Hedge Funds Review talks to CEO Patrick Fenal to find out what attracted the company to hedge funds.

In the early 1980s a Harvard professor named John Lintner published a seminal paper suggesting that adding a managed futures allocation to an investment portfolio would be a good thing. For Swiss company Unigestion, it was the beginning of an investment programme that would see hedge fund assets grow to more than $3 billion over the following 25 years.
