Investable indexes: January 2012 returns

Hedge funds started 2012 on a strong note, with gains across nearly all strategies as equity markets rallied, US economic data was positive and fears for the future of the eurozone were allayed.

Dow Jones/Credit Suisse
The Dow Jones Credit Suisse Hedge Fund Index started the year with strong performance, gaining 2.34% in January after finishing 2011 down 0.22%. All strategies had positive performance during January, with the exception of dedicated short bias, which was down 7.58% for the month. The strategy had a complete turnaround, having been the strongest performer in December, when it gained 1.65%. The best performance for the month came from equity long/short hedge funds, returning
